Microsoft has released the Pre-release version of Microsoft Emulator for Windows 10 Mobile. This package is a desktop application that emulates a Windows 10 Mobile device when used in conjunction with Visual Studio 2015 Preview. It provides a virtualized environment in which you can debug and test universal apps without a physical device. It also provides an isolated environment for your application prototypes.

Microsoft Emulator for Windows 10 Mobile ships as part of the Windows 10 SDK. The Windows 10 SDK and emulator can be installed as part of the Visual Studio 2015 install. See the Visual Studio download page.

Details
Microsoft Emulator for Windows 10 Mobile is a pre-released version of the next major release of the emulator. This preview provides early adopters with an opportunity to try out the new and improved emulator and OS features.

The emulator is designed to provide comparable performance to an actual device. Before you publish your app to the Windows Store, however, we recommend that you test your app on a physical device.

You can test your universal app using a unique Windows 10 Mobile emulator image for various screen resolution and screen size configurations. You can simulate real-world interaction with a device and test various features of your app by using the tools included in the Microsoft Emulator.

What’s new in the Microsoft Emulator for Windows 10 Mobile
In addition to providing support for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications the emulator has added the following functionality:

•  NFC Support. The emulator allows you to simulate NFC and make it possible to test and develop NFC/Proximity-enabled universal apps.
• Mouse input mode support to differentiate between mouse and single touch input.
