January 2015 Surface Pro 3 Firmware and Driver Update [Published: 4/8/2015]

The January 2015 firmware and driver update package for Surface Pro 3 are now available for download. These update adds support for updated HD Graphics Family driver, enhances display stability and performance, improves user experience when using Miracast adapters.

These update also improves compatibility with DisplayPort monitors and daisy chaining. Home Button and Pen Settings driver update improved compatibility with Surface Hub application. In addition Docking Station Audio Device driver update addressed scenario where no sound would play while the device was docked without an external speaker connected.

Overview
This firmware and driver updates package contains drivers for all of the components in the Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro devices. These drivers and firmware are compatible with Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

Because updates are cumulative, when you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your devices doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro will be downloaded and installed.

How to update Surface Pro 3 firmware?
Updates are automatically installed on Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro through Windows Update. However, you can also manually install updates by following the steps below:
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and then tap or click Settings.
  2. (If you’re using a mouse, point to upper-right corner of screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Settings.)
  3. Tap or click Change PC settings.
  4. Under PC settings, tap or click Windows Update.
  5. Tap or click Check for updates now.
  6. When updates are available, you will see a message that tells you how many updates are available. You may need to restart Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro after the updates have been installed.

What's new in Surface Pro 3 firmware update?
According to Microsoft's update history page, the January 2015 update includes these firmware and performance improvements:

March 26 release:
Surface Pro UEFI (v3.11.760.0) adds support for enterprise disk encryption, enhances the advanced configuration settings for device security, and adds configurable support from the Windows OS for provisioning scenarios.

March 10 release:
Surface Pen Settings driver update (v3.0.64.0) enables new functionality and features for the Surface app found in the Windows Store.

January 2015 updates:
  • Surface Pro UEFI update (v3.11.450.0) adds support for updated HD Graphics Family driver.
  • HD Graphics Family driver update (v10.18.14.4029) enhances display stability and performance, improves user experience when using Miracast adapters. Improves compatibility with DisplayPort monitors and daisy chaining.
  • Wireless Network Controller and Bluetooth driver update (v15.68.3073.151) addresses connectivity issues while Hyper-V is enabled. Adds an advanced feature to control the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band preference.
  • Surface Home Button driver update (v2.0.1179.0) ensures compatibility with the Surface Hub app.
  • Microsoft Docking Station Audio Device driver update (v1.31.35.7) improves the user experience while using the Surface Pro 3 Docking Station so that sound is available when a speaker is not connected to the docking station.

Note: These drivers and firmware are not compatible with Surface RT and Surface 2.
