The November 2014 firmware and driver update package for Surface Pro 3 are now available for download. These update enhances the system stability, optimizes the boot time with fast boot enabled, and resolves date and time accuracy when the battery level falls below 3%. These update also addresses compatibility with McAfee Defense Encryption 7.1.1.
Home Button and Pen Settings driver update enabled future functionality for the Surface Hub app. In addition Wireless Network Controller and Bluetooth driver update enhanced Wi-Fi throughput and also addressed connectivity while using 5ghz DFS channel.
Overview
This firmware and driver updates package contains drivers for all of the components in the Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro devices. These drivers and firmware are compatible with Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 Enterprise.
Because updates are cumulative, when you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your devices doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro will be downloaded and installed.
How to update Surface Pro 3 firmware?
Updates are automatically installed on Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro through Windows Update. However, you can also manually install updates by following the steps below:
- Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and then tap or click Settings.
- (If you’re using a mouse, point to upper-right corner of screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Settings.)
- Tap or click Change PC settings.
- Under PC settings, tap or click Windows Update.
- Tap or click Check for updates now.
- When updates are available, you will see a message that tells you how many updates are available. You may need to restart Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro after the updates have been installed.

- Optimizes the FWPOST time to 3.7 seconds with the fast boot enabled.
- Prevents situations where system clock loses time when battery falls below 3%.

Surface Pen Settings driver update (v2.5.14.0)

Wireless Network Controller and Bluetooth driver update (v15.68.3066.135)
- Enables better throughput after waking from sleep and connecting to an 802.11AC network.
- Ensures Infra scan list is not empty while connected to a wireless display adapter.
- Resolves an issue connecting to Cisco 1242 access points.
- Ensures device reconnects properly to a hidden SSID using a 5Ghz DFS channel after waking from sleep.
- Adds customer-requested functionality to prefer 5Ghz connections when both a 2.4ghz and 5ghz connection are present with the same SSID.
Note: These drivers and firmware are not compatible with Windows 8.0 or Surface RT.
