VMware Player 7.0 Now Available For Download

VMware Player 7 adds a number of new OS support including Windows 10 Technical Preview. It also includes a new version of  Hardware versions that brings a new virtual hardware functionality and new features while enabling VMware to run legacy operating systems in virtual machines.


Overview
VMware Player is a free desktop virtualization software application makes it easy to create and run virtual machines on a Windows or Linux PC. It can also run existing virtual machines created by VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion, VMware Fusion Professional or VMware vSphere.

VMware Player is free for personal non-commercial use. If you would like to learn about Virtual Machines or use them at home you are welcome to use VMware Player for free of charge. Students and Faculty of accredited educational institutions can use VMware Player for free if they are members of the VMware Academic Program.

The VMware Player user interface is designed to be as easy to use as possible. It is intended for people who need to run virtual machines, typically provided to them by their IT organization, system administrator, instructor, software supplier etc.

Key new features in VMware Player 7.0:
VMware Player 7.0 comes with a number of key new features includes:

Enhanced Operating System Compatibility: VMware Player 7 Pro will run on the latest release of Windows including Windows 8.1 and will support prevalent operating systems like Windows XP and Windows 7 in a virtual environment so users can continue to run legacy applications as long as they need.

Greater Hardware Compatibility: VMware Player 7 Pro will be optimized to run on today’s modern hardware including the latest PC laptops and high-resolution tablets.

Updated VMware Compatibility: VMware Player 7 Pro will be able to run restricted virtual machines created by VMware Workstation 11 or VMware Fusion 7 Pro. Restricted virtual machines secure corporate desktops with encryption, runtime password protection, USB access restriction, isolation between the host and guest OS, and time limitation.

VMware Hardware Version 11
Hardware versions introduce new virtual hardware functionality and new features while enabling VMware to run legacy operating systems in virtual machines. New features included in this hardware version:
  • New CPU enablement, including Intel Haswell microarchitecture extension support. VMware Player 7 is optimized to take advantage of new Haswell extensions, delivering up to 45% improvement in CPU-intensive operations like multimedia, encryption/decryption, and other strenuous performance tests.
  • Updated xHCI controller.
  • Updated NDIS drive.

Allocate up to 2GB video memory to a virtual machine.

Note: VMware Workstation 11 and Player 7 Pro require 64 bit processor and 64 bit host operating systems for advanced computing and enhanced performance. While 32 bit operating systems are supported inside virtual machines.
