March 2014 Surface 2 Firmware Updates

Microsoft has released March 2014 firmware update for Surface 2. This firmware updates provides support for Surface Power Cover accessory. This updates also improvements for multiple finger support when using the Touch Cover and Type Cover touchpad.

Here's what's new in March 2014 Surface 2 firmware update:

According to Microsoft's update history page, the following updates apply to Surface 2 and will be listed as "System Firmware Update - 3/11/2014" :
  • Surface 2 UEFI (v4.18.500) provides support for Surface Power Cover.
  • System Aggregator Firmware (v1.0.48500.0) provides support for Surface Power Cover.
  • Surface Platform Power Driver (v2.0.524.0) provides support for Surface Power Cover.
  • Surface Power Cover Firmware Update (v2.0.523.0) provides support for Surface Power Cover.
  • Surface Touch Cover 2 Firmware Update Device (v2.0.517.0) update improves multiple finger support on the touchpad.
  • Surface Type Cover 2 Firmware Update Device (v2.0.517.0) update improves multiple finger support on the touchpad.
  • Surface Home Button Driver (v2.0.281.0) resolves behavior where Surface would sometimes not wake from sleep.
  • Surface System Software Device (v5.0.498.0) includes stability and experience improvements.

Because updates are cumulative, when you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your Surface doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface will be downloaded and installed.

How to update Surface 2 firmware?
Updates are automatically installed on Surface through Windows Update. However, you can also manually install updates by following the steps below:
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and then tap or click Settings.
  2. (If you’re using a mouse, point to upper-right corner of screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Settings.)
  3. Tap or click Change PC settings.
  4. Under PC settings, tap or click Windows Update.
  5. Tap or click Check for updates now.
  6. When updates are available, you will see a message that tells you how many updates are available. You may need to restart Surface 2 after the updates have been installed.
