August 2013 Surface Pro firmware update enhances system stability, reliability and reduces power consumption

Microsoft has released August 2013 firmware update for Surface Pro. The update contains UEFI and System Aggregator (SAM) firmware update that enhances system stability, reliability and reduces power consumption. The update also improves touch latency with the touchpad on the Surface Type Cover and Surface Touch Cover.

Overview
This firmware and driver package contains drivers for all of the components in the Surface Pro device, as well as updates to the system firmware that have been released via Windows Update. These drivers and firmware are compatible with Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Enterprise.

Because updates are cumulative, when you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your Surface doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface will be downloaded and installed.

Note: These firmware are not compatible with Surface RT.

How to update Surface Pro firmware?
Updates are automatically installed on Surface through Windows Update. However, you can also manually install updates by following the steps below:

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and then tap or click Settings.
2. (If you’re using a mouse, point to upper-right corner of screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Settings.)
3. Tap or click Change PC settings.
4. Under PC settings, tap or click Windows Update.
5. Tap or click Check for updates now.
6. When updates are available, you will see a message that tells you how many updates are available. You may need to restart Surface after the updates have been installed.
