Skype for Windows 8 Gets HD Video Support

Microsoft has updated Skype for Windows 8 to version 1.8. This release brings support for HD video in select scenarios as well as minor bugs fixes.

Enhanced HD Video Support
Skype for Windows 8 adds support for HD video in select scenarios. Depending on the sender’s camera, available network bandwidth and the receiver’s setup on x86 devices, callers may be able to send 720p video and receive 1080p video, thereby improving the overall quality and performance of the video call.

Video Messaging continues in Preview
Skype Video Messaging allows you record and send a video message to friends and family on Skype anytime, even when they’re unavailable; they can watch your Video Message next time they’re on Skype. This release contains stability improvements to video messaging and made video messaging easier to find with improved notifications.

Download Skype for Windows 8
Skype app is supports all Windows 8 versions, including x86, x64 and ARM builds, so Surface RT owners can also install it.

Note: Skype for Windows 8 limits the length of the video messages to three minutes; free Skype users can sent 20 video messages, Skype Premium can sent unlimited video messages.
