Microsoft releases an Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8 (KB2805940)

Microsoft released an update KB2805940 for all supported editions of Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Windows RT. The update addresses multiple critical-risk vulnerabilities described in Adobe Flash Player 10.6 by updating the affected Adobe Flash libraries contained within Internet Explorer 10.

Security issues have been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise a computer running Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8 and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Microsoft recommends that customers apply an update KB2805940 immediately using update management software, or by checking for updates using the Microsoft Update service. Customers who have automatic updates enabled will not need to take any action because protections will be downloaded and installed automatically.

Known issues with this security update
  • Windows Update will not offer this security update to Windows RT-based computers until update KB2808380 has been installed.
  • After you install this security update, you may receive an error message when you open a Microsoft Office file that contains an embedded Shockwave Flash Object in Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint 2010, Microsoft Word 2007, Word 2010, Microsoft Excel 2007, or Excel 2010. When the error occurs, the corresponding application may shut down unexpectedly.
