Firefox 17.0 Beta 5 now available for download

Firefox 17.0 Beta 5 is now available for download from Mozilla download center. Firefox 17.0 improves display of location bar results, improvements to the silent update mechanism for users with incompatible add-ons, and refinements to the Click-To-Play system introduced in Firefox 14.0. This version also includes a new feature for developers, an HTML tree editor.

Note: Firefox 17.0 Final is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2012. Firefox 17.0 ESR is also scheduled to be released on the same day.

Firefox 17.0 Beta has the following changes:

New:
  • Click-to-play blocklisting implemented to prevent vulnerable plugin versions from running without the user's permission.
  • Mac OS X 10.8: Support for Notification Center.

Changed:
  • Updated Awesome Bar experience with larger icons.

Developer:
  • JavaScript Maps and Sets are now iterable.
  • SVG FillPaint and StrokePaint implemented.
  • Improvements that make the Web Console, Debugger and Developer Toolbar faster and easier to use.
  • New Markup panel in the Page Inspector allows easy editing of the DOM.

HTML5:
  • Sandbox attribute for iframes implemented, enabling increased security.

Fixed:
  • Over twenty performance improvements, including fixes around the New Tab page.
  • Pointer lock doesn't work in web apps (769150).
  • Page scrolling on sites with fixed headers (780345).
